Virgin Mobile's international A2P SMS gateway runs on BroadNet.

BroadNet Technologies serves as the international A2P SMS gateway provider for Virgin Mobile. The work is operator-direct end-to-end, and built around the regional compliance frameworks Virgin's customers expect to see audited cleanly.

One gateway

Operator-direct routing in place of a patchwork of aggregators

Customer
Virgin Mobile — part of the global Virgin Mobile MVNO group
Segment
Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO)
Market
MENA region — specific markets are covered under NDA
Partnership
Ongoing — BroadNet is the international A2P SMS gateway provider for Virgin Mobile
How it was rolled out
One SMPP bind set and REST endpoint carry every market. Alphanumeric sender IDs are pre-registered per market, and every send returns a delivery receipt with the operator timestamp to one webhook into billing and fraud.

Every line restates what this case study and the public record already say. Volumes and outcome metrics stay under NDA.

The challenge

A recognised brand
on borrowed rails.

Virgin Mobile carries one of the most recognised consumer brands in telecoms — and with it, a customer expectation that every OTP, transaction alert and account notification simply arrives, instantly, wherever the subscriber happens to be. But as an MVNO, Virgin does not own the radio network or the international interconnects that carry that A2P traffic.

Delivered through a patchwork of aggregators, that expectation is hard to hold. Route quality drifts between markets, a sender ID that is registered in one country is rejected in the next, and a delayed OTP reads to the subscriber as the brand's failure, not the aggregator's. On the revenue side, grey-route origination and sender-ID spoofing quietly erode the A2P channel that the brand is trusted to protect.

What Virgin needed was an international gateway that behaves the same way at month-end as it did at sign-off: operator-direct everywhere, sender-ID handling built for each regulator, and a clean audit trail its compliance team could stand behind.

What the partnership delivers

The wire,
taken seriously.

The full BroadNet enterprise-messaging stack, deployed for an MVNO that needs every A2P send to land on the right operator interconnect with the right sender ID and a clean DLR back to the platform.

Operator-direct international routing

1,000+ direct operator connections globally. Virgin Mobile's subscribers receive transactional SMS over tier-1 routes, not aggregator hops.

Sender-ID handling end-to-end

Pre-registered alphanumeric senders across every market the MVNO touches. AD- prefix injected automatically where regulators require it.

DLRs back into the platform

Every send produces a tamper-evident receipt with the operator timestamp. Standard webhook into Virgin Mobile's billing + fraud teams.

AI fraud detection on the inbound path

The same line-rate fraud engine deployed across MENA operator estates protects the MVNO's A2P revenue from grey-route arbitrage and sender-ID hijack.

The MVNO playbook

Why MVNOs partner
with the international gateway, not the aggregator down the road.

MVNOs have one of the hardest A2P shapes in messaging: the network they ride on, the regulator that governs them, and the international interconnect they bill into are three separate contractual surfaces. BroadNet collapses them into one.

One contract, every market

MVNOs touch customers across borders. Instead of one gateway per region, one BroadNet relationship covers operator-direct routing wherever the subscriber roams.

Regulator-grade audit trail

DLRs + immutable audit log. When TDRA / CST / NTRA / TRC ask for evidence of opt-in or content category, the export is one query away.

MENA-native ops

Arabic sender-ID handling, AED / SAR billing where the MVNO operates inside the GCC, GST-window enforcement and CST / TDRA alignment baked into the platform.

Architecture & integration

Operator-direct,
audited end-to-end.

Virgin Mobile's platform submits over a single SMPP and REST surface. BroadNet selects an operator-direct route per destination — 1,000+ direct operator connections rather than aggregator hops — applies the sender ID registered for that market, and runs each message through the line-rate fraud engine before it leaves the platform.

Every send returns a tamper-evident delivery receipt carrying the operator timestamp, delivered to one webhook into Virgin's billing and fraud systems. When a regulator asks for evidence of opt-in or content category, the immutable audit log answers it from a single query.

Send path
  1. 1
    Single surface

One SMPP bind set / REST endpoint carries every market — no per-region aggregator account sprawl.

  2. 2
    Sender-ID handling

Pre-registered alphanumeric senders per market, with the AD- prefix injected automatically where regulators require it.

  3. 3
    Firewall + routing

Line-rate fraud scoring, then operator-direct route selection across 1,000+ direct operator connections for tier-1 delivery quality.

  4. 4
    DLR + audit

A tamper-evident receipt with the operator timestamp returns on one webhook into billing and fraud, logged immutably.

The results

A gateway that
behaves the same at month-end.

Consolidating onto one operator-direct gateway removes the variance a brand cannot afford. Instead of route quality that drifts by market and by aggregator, Virgin's subscribers get the same sub-second transactional delivery whether they are at home or roaming — the outcome the brand is trusted to deliver, made consistent.

On compliance, a single DLR feed and immutable audit log turn regulator requests from a multi-vendor reconciliation exercise into a one-query export. On revenue, routing 100% of A2P through one firewall closes the blind spots that grey-route arbitrage and sender-ID hijack rely on when traffic is split across competing aggregators.

The relationship has held precisely because it is boring in the right way: the routes that worked at sign-off keep working, and the audit trail is always one export away. Named volumes and outcome metrics are shared with qualified prospects under NDA.
