Why operators run AirVantage

Built like a prepaid product, operated as a managed service.

Four reasons MNOs and MVNOs hand the zero-balance moment to BroadNet rather than build it in-house.

01 · NETWORK

Sub-second decisioning at the moment that counts.

We hold our own SMPP and SS7 binds with destination operators in 86 countries, and every other route is a labelled partner route. No grey routes, no surprise re-routing, no opaque price markups in the middle.

Four positions on the board.

Subscriber experience

Customers stay connected at the moment they would otherwise be cut off. Calls complete, sessions continue, OTPs arrive. Frustration becomes a positive interaction with the operator brand.

Operator revenue

Service-fee revenue on every advance creates a new income stream. Recharge frequency and basket size lift among advance users. Previously-lost airtime / data revenue is retained.

Risk management

Credit risk is shared between BroadNet and — where regulation requires — licensed financial partners, in the operator's preferred commercial model. Dynamic limits and segmentation hold bad debt to industry-benchmark levels.

Product catalogue

Five advance types
across one platform.

Each product runs on the same scoring, limit, settlement and operations rails. Operators activate the catalogue that matches their market and regulator perimeter.

Airtime advance

Instant top-up for voice and SMS when balance is exhausted. Denominations governed by scoring; repaid automatically on next recharge.

Data advance

Emergency data bundles — daily, weekly, monthly — when the active bundle is depleted. Activated immediately on accept.

Mobile-wallet advance

Credit to mobile money wallets where local regulation permits. Settled on next wallet top-up or recharge.

Utility advance

Electricity or water bill payment credit, in pilot markets and within regulatory perimeter. Operator-by-operator scope.

Agent / reseller advance

Credit lines for distribution partners to buy inventory. Daily settlement against agent recharge or replenishment cycles.

Behavioural scoring

Scoring tuned to
prepaid behaviour, not credit-bureau data.

Prepaid credit risk does not look like postpaid or traditional lending — there are no credit bureaus, no formal income, no collateral. The scoring engine uses many behavioural signals telecom operators already collect: tenure, ARPU, recharge cadence, usage mix, and prior repayment behaviour, among others. Specific weights and thresholds are confidential to the operator and tuned per market.

  • Many input variables across tenure, ARPU, recharge cadence, balance behaviour, prior repayment and usage mix.
  • 0–1000 risk score drives tiered eligibility and per-subscriber limits.
  • Limit graduation — limits adapt with repayment behaviour; rewarded for on-time, frozen on missed.
  • Bad-debt targeted to industry-benchmark levels through scoring and limit discipline.

Tier B
moderate
Eligible for moderate denominations; usual repayment terms.
Tier C

Eligible for minimal denominations with conservative limits.
Tier D

Not eligible. Re-evaluated after positive behaviour or recovery period.

Tier definitions and score bands are tuned per operator and per market; the table above is illustrative.

OCS / IN integration

Real-time integration with
the systems that move balance.

AirVantage integrates directly with the Online Charging System and Intelligent Network via Diameter or INAP for real-time balance queries, credit application, and reconciliation. USSD gateway, SMSC, and IVR handle subscriber interaction. CRM and recharge platforms close the loop.

  • OCS / IN — Diameter, INAP, vendor APIs for balance, credit, deduction.
  • USSD gateway — interactive, eligibility-aware menus localised per market.
  • SMSC + IVR — notifications, approvals, repayment confirmations.
  • Recharge platform — interception of incoming recharge for automatic settlement.

Commercial model

Zero CAPEX.
Managed-service framing.

BroadNet invests in the platform, the operations, and the financial- partner relationships. The operator allocates traffic-routing policy and customer-experience standards. Commercial split, risk allocation, and bad-debt envelope are scoped in the commercial brief.

01 · Investment

Zero operator CAPEX

BroadNet builds, deploys, and operates the platform. No hardware procurement, no staffing build-out, no platform-licensing line item for the operator.

02 · Risk

Risk-sharing options

BroadNet and — where regulation requires — licensed financial partners carry the credit risk. Operator-carry, hybrid, and per-segment risk-share models also supported.

03 · Settlement

Daily or weekly

Operator picks the cadence. Transparent ledger, attributable per-advance reporting, integrated into the operator's existing finance reconciliation flow.

Deployment phases

Four phases.
One project owner.

BroadNet runs project management end-to-end; the operator team reviews and signs off at each phase boundary. Timelines vary by environment complexity and the regulatory perimeter in the launch market.

Phase 01

Discovery & design

Workshop with operator network, IT, commercial and regulatory teams. Scope: segments, product catalogue, channels, integration points. Commercial model finalisation.

Phase 02

Build & integration

Platform configuration, OCS / IN connectivity, USSD / SMSC / IVR integration, security review. Joint integration testing with operator engineering.

Phase 03

UAT & soft launch

Controlled-segment UAT against real traffic. Tune limits, offers, messaging. Monitor KPIs: approval rate, usage rate, repayment rate.

Phase 04

Commercial rollout

Scale to the full eligible base. Awareness marketing. Steady-state operations, monthly business reviews, continuous optimisation.

Customer stories

What an advance platform
changes for prepaid.

Tier-1 GCC operatorTelecom · GulfAE
Challenge
A large prepaid base lost a measurable share of calls and data sessions every day to zero-balance events, with no commercial mechanism to capture the lost traffic.
Approach
AirVantage rolled out on USSD and SMS for an initial segment, with per-segment limits tuned during a controlled UAT against real subscriber behaviour.

Challenge
Subscribers in lower-tenure segments were churning at the zero-balance moment, often before the operator could re-engage them.
Approach
A conservative starter-limit catalogue was introduced for new subscribers, graduating with positive repayment behaviour. The decision engine and OCS integration ran live alongside the existing recharge rails.

Challenge
A smaller operator wanted advance services without standing up a credit team or carrying CAPEX, and without building bespoke OCS integration.

Questions buyers ask

Eight buyer questions,
answered before the workshop.

AirVantage is BroadNet's fully managed airtime and data advance platform for prepaid and hybrid subscribers. When a customer hits zero balance, AirVantage offers an instant advance — repaid automatically on the next recharge. The operator earns a service-fee revenue stream, retains traffic that would otherwise be lost, and improves subscriber experience at a moment of friction.

Every zero-balance moment is unmonetised — voice, SMS, and data sessions that would have happened simply do not. AirVantage converts those moments into fee revenue, lifts recharge frequency and basket size among advance users, and reduces churn driven by connectivity gaps. It is the commercial wrapper for an event that is currently pure loss.

Multiple models are supported: a BroadNet-and-financial-partner risk-share (operator carries no default exposure, receives a share of service-fee revenue), an operator-carry model (operator carries risk, BroadNet receives a platform fee), and hybrid splits by customer segment. The model is finalised in the commercial brief based on the operator's preferred risk-allocation and regulatory perimeter.

Airtime advance for voice and SMS top-ups, data advance for emergency daily / weekly / monthly bundles, mobile-wallet advances where regulation permits, utility advances (electricity / water bills) in pilot markets, and agent / reseller credit lines for distribution partners. Operators activate the catalogue that fits their market and regulator scope.

Prepaid credit risk is fundamentally different from postpaid lending — there are no bureaus, no formal income, no collateral. The platform uses behavioural data the operator already collects: tenure, ARPU, recharge cadence, balance behaviour, prior repayment, and usage mix. Initial limits are set per segment and adjusted per-subscriber based on repayment behaviour. Specific weights and thresholds are tuned per operator and per market.

USSD with dynamic, eligibility-aware menus localised per market. Self-care app and web. IVR interception when a call attempt hits insufficient balance. SMS for proactive offers, approvals, and repayment notifications. All four operate as a single coherent journey from the subscriber's perspective.

OCS / IN integration via Diameter, INAP, or vendor API for balance, credit, and reconciliation. USSD gateway via MAP / USSD. SMSC via SMPP / HTTP. Recharge platform via API or DB sync for automatic settlement. Optional CRM integration for customer-care workflows. BroadNet handles the integration as part of the managed service — operator engineering reviews and signs off.

Four phases — discovery and design, build and integration, UAT and soft launch, commercial rollout. BroadNet runs project management end-to-end; the operator signs off at each phase boundary. Timeline depends on environment complexity, OCS / IN access, and regulatory perimeter in the launch market — typically several months from kickoff to full rollout.
