Enter your monthly volume, choose a destination country and paste a sample message. We multiply your volume by the message's segment count and the country's reference per-SMS rate to give you an indicative monthly cost. It is a planning estimate, not a binding quote.

The short answer
How is SMS cost calculated?
SMS is billed per segment, per destination country. Your monthly cost is your message volume multiplied by the number of segments each message occupies, multiplied by the per-segment rate for the destination. A message that fits in one GSM-7 segment costs one unit; add an emoji or an accent and it switches to Unicode, halving the per-segment budget and often doubling the segment count — and therefore the cost.
What drives your SMS bill
Three things set your spend: volume, segments and route. Volume is how many messages you send. Segments come from message length and encoding — 160 GSM-7 characters or 70 Unicode characters per single segment, dropping to 153 or 67 once a message spans multiple parts. Route is the per-country rate, which reflects operator termination fees, regulatory registration and quality of the path. This tool uses BroadNet's published per-country reference rate for the route component; the exact rate on your account depends on volume and commercial terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an exact price?
No. It is an indicative estimate for planning. It multiplies your volume by the message's segment count and a published per-country reference rate. Your actual rate depends on monthly volume, the route we select and your commercial terms — request a quote for a firm price.
Where do the per-country rates come from?
They are BroadNet's published per-market reference list prices, the same figures shown in the coverage explorer. They are real reference rates — not invented numbers — but they are starting points, not a binding quote for your specific traffic.
Why did my cost jump when I added an emoji?
An emoji, curly quote or accented character forces the whole message into Unicode (UCS-2), which fits only 70 characters per segment instead of 160. That can double the number of segments, and you are billed per segment — so the cost roughly doubles. The estimator shows the encoding and segment count so you can see this happen.
Does volume change my rate?
Yes. Higher, steadier volume typically earns better commercial rates than the published reference figure. This tool applies the reference rate uniformly, so treat it as a ceiling for planning and ask us for volume pricing.
What if a country isn't listed?
The selector only lists markets that carry a published reference rate. If you need a country that isn't shown, it's quote-required — contact us and we'll price the route for you.
Are taxes and fees included?
No. The estimate covers the message rate only. Local taxes, sender-ID registration fees and any per-country surcharges are quoted separately based on your setup.
