Everything worth knowing, nothing that isn't.
Why SMS works for reminders
SMS lands on every phone with no app or login, and industry studies consistently report SMS open rates far above email, with most messages read within minutes. That immediacy is exactly what a time-bound reminder needs.
Make it two-way
Let recipients reply C to confirm or R to reschedule; route the responses back into your booking system with two-way SMS and webhooks. A confirm/reschedule loop reduces both no-shows and the staff time spent on reminder calls. See /products/two-way-sms and /answers/what-is-mo-vs-mt.
Timing and cadence
A common pattern is one reminder 24–48 hours ahead (enough time to rebook the slot) and an optional same-day nudge. Respect quiet hours and the recipient's timezone.
Consent and healthcare compliance
Collect opt-in at booking, keep reminders strictly transactional, and in healthcare avoid clinical detail in the message body. See /answers/hipaa-for-messaging and /answers/gdpr-for-messaging.
