TPS calculator.

Work out how long a campaign takes to send. Enter your message volume, throughput in messages per second (TPS) and the segments per message to get total send time, messages per hour and a completion ETA — using standard arithmetic, not any BroadNet limit.

TPS is treated as segments submitted per second, since each segment is a separate submission. A two-segment message consumes two per-second slots.

The short answer

How long will my SMS campaign take to send?

Divide the total number of segments by your throughput in segments per second. Total segments is your message count times the segments per message. At 100 TPS, one million single-segment messages take 10,000 seconds — about 2 hours 47 minutes. Multipart messages take proportionally longer because each segment is submitted separately.

The formulas
  • total segments = messages × segments per message
  • total time (s) = total segments ÷ TPS
  • messages / hour = TPS × 3600 ÷ segments per message
  • TPS needed = total segments ÷ seconds until deadline

Why real throughput is often lower

This planner assumes a steady, sustained rate. In production, carrier queueing, retries, rate limiting and per-destination throttles mean the effective rate is usually a little below the nominal TPS. Provision headroom above the theoretical minimum, especially when you are sending against a hard deadline.

Frequently asked questions

What is TPS in SMS?

TPS stands for transactions per second — the number of messages your connection can submit to the network each second. On SMPP it is the submit_sm rate on a bind. Higher TPS means a large campaign clears faster; the limit is set by your provider, route and bind configuration.

How do I calculate how long it takes to send a campaign?

Total time in seconds equals the total number of segments divided by your throughput in segments per second. Total segments is your message count multiplied by segments per message. For example, 1,000,000 single-segment messages at 100 TPS take 10,000 seconds, about 2 hours 47 minutes.

Do multipart messages reduce my effective throughput?

Yes. Each segment is a separate submission, so a two-segment message consumes two of your per-second slots. A campaign of two-segment messages takes twice as long as the same number of single-segment messages at the same TPS. Set segments per message above to account for that.

What throughput do I need to send by a deadline?

Divide the total segments by the number of seconds until your deadline. If you must send 500,000 single-segment messages within one hour (3,600 seconds), you need at least about 139 TPS. Provision headroom above the theoretical minimum for retries and variability.

Is real-world throughput the same as the theoretical figure?

Not exactly. This planner assumes a steady, sustained rate. In production, carrier queueing, retries, rate limiting and per-destination throttles mean effective throughput is usually a little lower than the nominal TPS, so treat the result as a best-case planning baseline.
