Message template previewer.
Write an SMS template with {{variables}}, fill in sample values, and see exactly what your customer receives — with live character count, GSM-7 vs Unicode encoding, and segment count. It flags unresolved variables and the characters that quietly force Unicode and double your cost. Runs entirely in your browser.
One per line as key=value, or leave blank to preview the raw template.
Why preview a template before you send
Personalized templates are where two costly mistakes hide: a variable that never gets a value (so customers receive a literal {{name}}), and a stray Unicode character — an emoji, a curly quote, an accented letter — that switches the whole message to Unicode encoding and halves the per-segment limit from 160 to 70 characters. Previewing the resolved message with its real segment count catches both before they reach a customer or double your bill.
Frequently asked questions
- What happens if a variable has no value?
- The recipient receives the literal placeholder — for example a message reading 'Hi {{name}}' with the braces intact. This previewer flags any variable in your template that you have not supplied a value for, so you catch it before sending.
- Why does one character change my segment count?
- SMS uses the 7-bit GSM alphabet, which fits 160 characters per segment. A single character outside that alphabet — an emoji, a non-Latin letter, or often a curly quote — forces the whole message to 16-bit Unicode, which fits only 70 characters per segment, so your message can suddenly cost more to send.
- Is my template uploaded anywhere?
- No. The previewer resolves and analyzes the template entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to BroadNet or any server, so it is safe to paste real templates and sample data.
- Does this replace the segment calculator?
- It complements it. The segment calculator analyzes a finished message; the previewer resolves a template with variables first, then shows the segment count of the personalized result — which is what your customer actually receives.
