Everything worth knowing, nothing that isn't.
What makes a message transactional
It is tied to a specific user action or account event and delivers information the user needs — a code, a confirmation, an alert — rather than a promotion. Because it is essential-service, it is generally treated differently from marketing under most regulations. See /answers/what-is-promotional-sms and /answers/sms-compliance-checklist.
Why classification matters
Sender IDs and routes are registered and priced by class, and sending promotional content under a transactional sender ID can get the ID suspended by the operator firewall. Classify correctly and keep the two streams separate. See /answers/how-to-register-sender-id.
Deliver it reliably
Transactional messages — especially OTP and fraud alerts — must arrive in seconds, so they belong on direct, high-priority routes with a strong SLA and monitored delivery receipts. See /answers/sms-for-payment-alerts and /answers/best-channel-for-otp.
