Number Insight · runs in your browser

Paste a phone number in international format to see what is reliably derivable from the number itself — country, region, dialing code, E.164 / international / national formatting, a length-plausibility check, and the operator landscape of the destination country. Nothing leaves your device.

Include the country code, e.g. +971… or 00971… — the country is matched from the international dialing prefix.

This is an illustrative insight from the number's structure.

Everything below is derived offline from the number's dialing prefix and numbering-plan rules — not from a live network query. To identify the actual operator, ported (MNP) status and line-type of a live number, use HLR Lookup. We do not and cannot infer the specific carrier of this number from its digits alone.

Country

UAE

Dialing code

+971

Region: MENA

E.164

+971500000000

International

+971 500 000 000

National

0500 000 000

Length looks plausible: 9 national digits is within the 9-digit range typical for UAE.

Total length 12 digits is within the E.164 maximum of 15.

The length check is a plausibility heuristic against national numbering-plan ranges, not a guarantee that the number is assigned or active.

## Operators serving UAE

These are the mobile operators active in the destination country — not the operator of this specific number. Which network a live number is actually on (including after porting) can only be resolved with an HLR Lookup.

| Operator | MCC-MNC |
|---|---|
| Etisalat / e& | 424-02 |
| du | 424-03 |
| Virgin Mobile | MVNO · du |

## Need the live operator, ported status and line-type?

A number's digits reveal its country and format, but not which network it is on right now, whether it has been ported, or whether it is mobile, landline or VoIP. HLR Lookup queries the Home Location Register in real time to return the current operator (MCC-MNC), ported status and line-type for a live MSISDN.

The short answer

## What can you actually tell from a phone number?

A phone number encodes its country and format, but not the live network state. From the digits alone — offline, no network query — you can reliably derive the country, region and dialing code, and normalise the number into E.164, international and national forms with a length-plausibility check. Everything about the live network — the current operator, ported status and line-type — requires a real-time HLR Lookup against the operator's Home Location Register.

### Derivable from the number itself

- Country and region, matched from the international dialing prefix (ITU-T E.164).
- The country / dialing code and the national significant number.
- E.164, international and national formatting of the number.
- A length-plausibility check against the national numbering plan.
- The operator landscape of the destination country — who operates there.

### Requires a live HLR Lookup

- The actual operator the number is on right now (current MCC-MNC).
- Whether the number has been ported to another network (MNP).
- Line-type: mobile, fixed-line or VoIP.
- Whether the SIM is active, reachable or currently roaming.
- The live subscriber's IMSI-level network identity.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can you tell the operator of a number from the number alone?**

No. The digits of a phone number encode the country and, historically, the operator block it was issued from — but number portability (MNP) means the current operator can differ from the issuing one. The only reliable way to know the live operator is an HLR Lookup, which queries the operator's Home Location Register in real time.

**What is E.164 format?**

E.164 is the ITU-T international public telecommunication numbering plan. An E.164 number is written as a leading + followed by the country calling code and the national significant number, with a maximum of 15 digits and no spaces or punctuation — for example +971500000000. It is the canonical format for storing and routing numbers across systems.

**How is the country determined?**

The tool strips the number to digits, removes any + or 00 international prefix, and matches the longest country calling code that the remaining digits begin with. Some calling codes are shared by several countries (for example +1 covers the United States, Canada and much of the Caribbean under the NANP), in which case the specific country cannot be derived from the code alone.

**Is the length / validity check authoritative?**

It is a plausibility heuristic. The tool compares the national significant number against the typical digit-length range for that country's numbering plan and confirms the total stays within the 15-digit E.164 maximum. A number can pass the length check and still be unassigned or inactive — only a live HLR query confirms that a number exists and is reachable.

**What is an HLR Lookup and how is it different?**

An HLR (Home Location Register) Lookup sends a real-time signalling query to the operator that returns live network state for a specific MSISDN: the current operator and MCC-MNC, whether the number has been ported, the line-type, and whether the subscriber is active or roaming. Number Insight is an offline, structural view of the number; HLR Lookup is the live network truth.

**Does any data leave my browser?**

No. Number Insight runs entirely in your browser against a built-in dialing-code and country dataset. The number you paste is never transmitted. If you need a live network answer for a real number, use HLR Lookup, which is a server-side operator query.

## From a number to the live network.

Number Insight tells you the country and format offline. When you need the live operator, ported status and line-type for real MSISDNs at scale, BroadNet's HLR Lookup queries operators directly. Talk to our team about volumes and routing.
