Enter your sent, delivered, failed and pending counts to get delivery and failure rates and a clear breakdown. Every number is your own — there are no assumed benchmarks. Nothing leaves your device.

Pending covers messages still in flight — submitted but without a final delivery receipt yet. As DLRs settle they move into delivered or failed.

Delivery rate

94.20%

Failure rate

4.10%

Pending

1.70%

Delivered 94,200 Failed 4,100 Pending 1,700

Excluding still-pending messages, delivered is 95.83% of resolved traffic (delivered + failed). This is a fairer rate while DLRs are still settling.

The short answer

## How do you calculate SMS delivery rate?

Delivery rate is the share of the messages you sent that were confirmed delivered: **delivery rate = delivered ÷ sent × 100**. Failure rate is failed ÷ sent × 100, and the remainder is still pending — submitted but awaiting a final delivery receipt. While a campaign is live, a lot of traffic is pending, so it is often fairer to also look at delivered as a share of resolved messages (delivered plus failed) until the receipts settle.

The formulas

- delivery_rate % = delivered ÷ sent × 100
- failure_rate % = failed ÷ sent × 100
- pending % = pending ÷ sent × 100
- resolved_delivery % = delivered ÷ (delivered + failed) × 100

### Why delivered may not equal sent minus failed

The four counts should reconcile — delivered plus failed plus pending equals sent — but in practice they often don't line up because some networks never return a final delivery receipt, DLRs arrive late, or intermediate states are counted inconsistently. A persistent gap between sent and the sum of outcomes usually points to missing DLRs on a particular route rather than a true delivery problem. This tool flags the gap so you can chase it down; it never invents the missing numbers.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is a good SMS delivery rate?**

It depends heavily on route quality, destination and sender-ID compliance, so there is no single universal number and this tool doesn't assert one. What matters is measuring your own rate consistently, comparing it per route and per country, and investigating any route that drifts below your historical baseline.

**How is delivery rate different from open or conversion rate?**

Delivery rate measures whether the message reached the handset (confirmed by a delivery receipt). Open and conversion rates measure what the recipient did afterwards — read the message, clicked a link, entered a code. A message can be delivered but not acted on, so the two are separate metrics.

**Why are some messages stuck pending?**

Pending means the message was accepted for delivery but a final delivery receipt hasn't arrived yet. That can be normal (the handset is off or out of coverage and the message is queued) or it can indicate a route that never returns final DLRs. Long-lived pending on one route is worth investigating.

**Should failed messages count against my delivery rate?**

Yes — failure rate is failed divided by sent. But it helps to look at both the raw delivery rate (against everything sent) and the resolved rate (delivered divided by delivered plus failed), because the resolved rate isn't skewed by messages that are still pending mid-campaign.

**Does this tool store my numbers?**

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. All figures come from the counts you enter — there are no BroadNet benchmarks or assumed rates baked in.
