# What is SRTP (Secure RTP)?

> SRTP (Secure Real-time Transport Protocol, RFC 3711) is the encrypted profile of RTP: it encrypts and authenticates the voice and video media of a VoIP call so it can't be eavesdropped or tampered with in transit. It is typically paired with SIP over TLS (which protects the signaling) and with DTLS key exchange in WebRTC, giving end-to-end call confidentiality. See /answers/what-is-rtp, /answers/what-is-sip, and /answers/what-is-webrtc.
