# What is CPS (Calls Per Second)?

> CPS (calls per second) is the voice-network equivalent of messaging TPS: the maximum rate at which a platform or carrier trunk accepts new call attempts. It caps outbound dialing bursts — voice-OTP campaigns, notifications, or contact-center diallers — independently of how many calls are concurrently active. Exceeding the contracted CPS causes call attempts to be rejected or queued. See /answers/what-is-tps, /answers/what-is-pdd, and /tools/erlang-calculator.
