# What is voice broadcast?

> Voice broadcast is the automated delivery of a pre-recorded or text-to-speech voice message to many recipients at once — used for alerts, reminders, notifications, and surveys. It reaches people who may not read a text, works on landlines and feature phones, and can collect responses via keypad (DTMF), making it a useful complement to SMS for urgent or accessibility-sensitive communications.

## How it works

The platform places automated calls and plays a recorded or text-to-speech message, optionally collecting keypad responses for confirmations or surveys. It rides the voice network, so it reaches numbers and situations SMS may not. See /answers/programmable-voice and /answers/what-is-dtmf.

## When to use it

Emergency and time-critical alerts, appointment and payment reminders for audiences that prefer voice, landline reach, and accessibility cases where a spoken message serves better than text. See /answers/voice-otp-explained.

## Interactive responses

Add keypad (DTMF) options so recipients can confirm, opt out, or answer a survey question — turning a one-way broadcast into a measurable interaction. See /answers/what-is-ivr.

## Pair it with SMS

Voice broadcast and SMS complement each other: SMS for the record and link, voice for immediacy and reach. Orchestrate both for critical notifications. See /answers/what-is-omnichannel-orchestration and /products/voice.
