# Sender ID registration in Egypt — the NTRA process

> Egypt's NTRA (National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority) requires all A2P SMS sender IDs to be pre-approved and all A2P traffic to terminate through NTRA-licensed local aggregators. There is no grey-route tolerance in Egypt — non-licensed routes are detected and blocked by the operator firewalls within days. Registration takes 10-15 business days.

## Who can register

Only NTRA-licensed Class A and Class B aggregators can submit sender-ID applications. Foreign brands cannot register directly. BroadNet operates under a partnership with a Class A NTRA-licensed entity for Egypt sender-ID registration. Required documents: registered Egyptian business entity (or the sponsor's entity), tax card, commercial registration, requested sender ID in both Arabic and Latin if both are needed, content samples, and recipient consent attestation.

## Coverage and pricing

Four mobile operators: Vodafone Egypt (largest), Orange Egypt, Etisalat Misr (now e&), and WE (Telecom Egypt). Sender-ID registration costs EGP 1,500-3,000 one-time plus EGP 3,000-5,000 annually per operator per sender ID — you typically register across all four to ensure delivery regardless of recipient operator. SMS pricing: USD 0.025-0.05 depending on volume tier and operator.

## Arabic and Latin handling

Arabic sender IDs are widely supported and recommended. Mixed-character sender IDs (Latin + Arabic) are rejected. Numeric-only sender IDs are not permitted for A2P — must include at least one letter. Length cap: 11 characters.

## Where non-compliance shows up

Egypt's operator firewalls block at the SCCP layer — non-licensed traffic doesn't even get a delivery-failure DLR, it just disappears. If your aggregator quotes you USD 0.008 per SMS to Egypt, they are routing through grey paths that will be blocked. The threshold below which Egypt SMS is impossible is around USD 0.020 per message. Anything cheaper is unsustainable.
